December 18, 2024, Gresik — The Gresik Special Economic Zone (SEZ) once again drew international attention with the visit of the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Indonesia, H.E. Wang Lutong, to the Java Integrated Industrial and Ports Estate (JIIPE). This important visit underscores China’s commitment to strengthening its strategic relationship with Indonesia in the industrial and investment sectors.
According to the latest data from the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), China is one of Indonesia’s largest sources of foreign investment. As of the third quarter of 2024, China’s total investment in Indonesia reached USD 5.78 billion, reinforcing its position as a key economic partner.
As a vital engine of Indonesia’s economic growth, East Java has made significant contributions through manufacturing, infrastructure development, and renewable energy. Within this context, the Gresik Special Economic Zone (JIIPE) has emerged as a major driver of bilateral economic growth.
During the visit, Ambassador Wang Lutong toured several key tenants at JIIPE, including PT Freeport Indonesia, PT Hailiang Nova Material Indonesia, and PT Xinyi Glass Indonesia. The visit also coincided with a milestone event—the “firing ceremony” of PT Xinyi Glass Indonesia. This ceremony symbolized a major advancement in high-tech manufacturing and further strengthened JIIPE’s position as a leading downstream industrial hub in the region.
PT Xinyi Glass Indonesia showcased its latest state-of-the-art production line, equipped with advanced technology and a daily melting capacity of up to 1,100 tons. This modern facility is designed to produce high-quality float glass for applications in construction, automotive, and renewable energy sectors, serving the diverse needs of the Indonesian and Southeast Asian markets.
Ambassador Wang Lutong’s visit aligns with his remarks upon assuming office in Indonesia last year, when he emphasized the importance of the “friendly neighboring relationship and comprehensive strategic partnership” between the two countries. His commitment to accelerating bilateral cooperation during his tenure reflects the shared determination of both nations to strengthen economic ties.
JIIPE President Director, Bambang Soetiono, reaffirmed the estate’s commitment to providing an integrated industrial ecosystem. “JIIPE offers comprehensive support, including port facilities, high-quality infrastructure, and sustainable energy services, to facilitate global investment. This visit reflects the strong confidence of the Chinese government and industry leaders in the potential of our region,” he stated.
The Gresik Special Economic Zone (JIIPE) has firmly established itself as a symbol of strategic cooperation between Indonesia and China, addressing the demands of global industrial relocation. With its modern infrastructure, logistical efficiency, and strategic location, JIIPE has become a preferred destination for Chinese enterprises seeking to establish strategic production bases in Southeast Asia.
This visit marks an important milestone in the ongoing collaboration between the two countries, further reinforcing JIIPE’s reputation as a key driver of regional industrial and economic development.
